Did you know that two old coal plants in Pilsen and Little Village are Chicago’s largest stationary sources of particulate and global warming pollution in the city, and that their emissions are responsible for 41 premature deaths and 2800 asthma attacks every year? Or that a grassroots movement, designed to hold elected officials accountable for making Chicago a safer and healthier place to live, is bubbling up in a number of Chicago’s Wards?

Join Pam and Lan Richart of the Chicago-based Eco-Justice Collaborative on Thursday evening, July 22 at 7:15 PM at the Ancient Dragon Zen Gate Peace and Environmental Forum, and learn about the Chicago Clean Power Ordinance and exciting campaign supported by nearly 40 organizations! This evening of information sharing and dialogue will:

  • Explain why a just and immediate response to the clean up the emissions from these plants is warranted.
  • Highlight key components of the Clean Power Ordinance.
  • Relate the campaign to the City of Chicago’s objectives and goals as expressed in the recently adopted Climate Action Plan.
  • Identify a variety of ways you can “plug in” to ensure that the Chicago Clean Power Ordinance is passed by City Council.
