Campaign Planning Meeting
Thursday, August 11, 7:00 pm
Offices of Eco-Justice Collaborative
919 West University Drive, Champaign, IL
The purpose of this campaign is call on the State of Illinois and its regulatory agencies to require Dynegy to:
- Remove coal ash waste from the floodplain of the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River, where it intersects with groundwater. Also, the river banks and abutting impoundment structures are subject to the natural hydraulic force of the river, which is causing severe erosion. This erosion raises concerns over a potential breach and coal ash spill that could send millions of gallons of toxic waste into the state’s only National Scenic River.
- Relocate the waste to an upland area on its property in a properly designed and monitored facility that will ensure the long-term safety of surrounding property and people.
We’ll continue our planning for the next 60 days.
